Aerial photograph of North and Central Wards 1950

Title

Aerial photograph of North and Central Wards 1950

Description

Aerial photograph of Newark Central and North Wards, documenting the area between South Orange Avenue to south and Park Avenue to north; Branch Brook Park to east and Fairmount Cemetery to west. Map predates the 1957 construction of Route 280. A thick band of red tape originally affixed to map indicated the proposed route of Route 280, still in planning at this time. The tape is now largely gone, but the remaining details of buildings and streets on map help reveal the densely built environment of an older Newark before white flight and the Rebellion of 1967.
