St. Peter's Orphan Asylum was founded to care for children whose fathers died in the Civil War. The institution was originally opened as a small wooden building.

Condition History
Since the building proved to be too small to carry out operations, surrounding lots were purchased. The orphanage was also attached to a kindergarten. In 1897, the orphanage was moved to a larger structure near Lyon's Avenue. A school was incorporated by 1903.
