Description

Forest Hill Historic District is located in the Northeast of Newark. It takes up 57 blocks and is bounded by Verona Avenue, Mount Prospect Avenue, Second Avenue, and Branch Brook Park. This primarily residential district consists of houses built generally between 1890-1925, and represent various historic revival styles of architecture. Most of the land within the historic district had been owned by three prominent Newark families: the Hellers, the Ballantines, and the Clarks. The historic district also contains various historic houses including Sydenham House and Clark Mansion.

While some of the homes have been converted for other purposes, the district remains largely unchanged.
